David Donald Lee

David Donald Lee, 90, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all he met, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024. Dave was born in Harrisburg, Illinois on December 26, 1933, the only child of Virginia Kearns Lee and Walter Donald Lee. After growing up in Chicago, he earned a bachelor’s degree from DePaul University, where he was the manager for the Blue Demon basketball team, and a master’s from Northwestern, both in chemistry. He also served as an officer in the United States Army. Soon afterward, he embarked on a 35-year-long career in chemical marketing with Union Carbide, first in Eastview, NY, then at their world headquarters in New York City and Danbury, CT. In 1961 Dave met Patricia Reinhard through mutual friends and they were married on August 18, 1962. They lived in White Plains, NY and Ridgefield, CT, where they raised two children and two Hungarian sheepdogs. When Dave retired from corporate life, he and Pat moved to Chase Point in Tuftonboro, NH, where they had spent family summer vacations for many decades. They passed the winter in Naples, FL for many years as well. Dave pursued a wide range of interests and passions. Early on, he played piano and pursued photography. Throughout adulthood, he enjoyed tennis, platform tennis, golf, sailing, and skiing. After he retired, he took up watercolor painting, joined a local curling team, and played the drums in a band with friends. He also served as the president of the Friends of the Tuftonboro Free Library, helping raise money for a large renovation. He is survived by his wife, Pat, with whom he shared many interests during their 61 years of marriage, as well as their two children, Kate Marple (and JD) of San Francisco, CA and Christopher Lee (and Rosita) of Boynton Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Chloe and Onyx Marple, and Cristina Lee; and many other cherished family members. A memorial service to celebrate Dave’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, at St. Katharine Drexel. Following the service there will be a luncheon reception at the church hall for all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Tuftonboro Free Library at 221 Middle Rd, Center Tuftonboro, NH 03816.
