Marion Lincoln Gould

Obituary for Marion Lincoln Gould Marion "Abe" Lincoln Gould, age 93, of Wolfeboro and Tuftonboro, passed away on June 15, 2011 at the Mountain View Nursing Home. Born in Cape Elizabeth ME on February 27, 1918 she graduated from Scarsdale (NY) High School in 1935 and Finch Junior College in 1940, and attended Bouve Boston School for Girls in Boston. She married the late Robert V. Gould, an electrical engineer, on April 18, 1942. They resided in Uniondale NY from 1942 to 1980. From 1951 to 2006, the Goulds maintained a summer cottage at the former Lakes Region Airpark on Wolfeboro Neck, and in 1980 they permanently retired to Tuftonboro (Mirror Lake Estates). They lived in Netherlands for a period of four years prior to their retirement. Marion was an active person, who in her early years hiked with her father and three brothers, all the Presidential Mountains including Mt Washington, and continued to hike them for many years later. She was an avid skier, swimmer, and tennis player throughout her life, and enjoyed travelling around the continent in the family airplane and writing numerous travel articles about those adventures for various flying magazines. She enjoyed travelling extensively throughout the world during her retirement years. She was a lover of nature and gardening, and those who knew her well, knew she hated to cook and do laundry. Marion often performed library volunteer work, and served as a president of the Friends of the Wolfeboro Library for several years. Marion was predeceased by her brothers and by her beloved husband "Bob" in 2005. She is survived by her son, Robert Lincoln Gould and his wife Linda Matson of Florence MA; her nieces Pat Shipp and Sue Byerly both of Colorado Springs CO; and nephews Robert Lincoln of Torrington CT, Richard Burgess of Allendale NJ, Ted Burgess of Cincinnati OH, her late brother's partner, John Burke of Buena Vista, CO, and numerous great nieces and nephews. A private ceremony will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, 54 Portsmouth Street, Concord, NH 03301.
