Robert Thompson

Mirror Lake, NH-On Tuesday, July 9, 2013, Robert McBroom Thompson, passed away at the young age of 84, after a brief illness. Born in Evanston, Illinois, on Nov. 15, 1928, Robert was the third of five children to Ethel (McBroom) and William Thompson. He studied at the University of Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1950. Robert served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the United States Army, as a Sergeant of CE-USAR, Ready Reserve division in 1957. On June 8, 1957, Robert married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Roepke. He was a CPA for Walton, Joplan, Langer & Co., in Chicago, until he moved his family, settling in East Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1964. He was the Vice President and Corporate Controller of McGraw-Hill, Inc., of New York City, until his retirement in 1993. Robert and his family spent their summers vacationing on Lake Winnipesaukee, just outside of Wolfeboro, NH. He spent much of his time fishing, boating, skiing, and relaxing with friends and family. Loving his time on the lake so much, Robert and his wife made their summer home in Tuftonboro, NH, their year-round home in 2007. Robert was predeceased in life by his youngest daughter, Linda Thompson Warner in 2011 and many animal companions. He is survived by his loving wife, of 56 years, Barbara and his doxie, Ginger, his daughters, Janet and her husband, David Young, of Parsippany, New Jersey; Sandra and Scott Mullennix of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sons, Steven Thompson, also of Colorado Springs, and Michael Thompson and Carol Geisinger of Mira Loma, California. He is survived by his two brothers, William and Richard, and their families, also of California. Robert leaves behind eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie, Kelly, Michael, Christina, Zachary, Jessica, and Robert, and one great-grandchild, Rylin. Robert was truly a one-of-a-kind man and will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be held in Wolfeboro, NH, Friday from 10am-12pm at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service 85 Mill St. Wolfeboro, NH.
