Virginia Norton Sexton

Virginia "Jinny" Sexton, 93, on September 25, 2014, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully to rejoin her husband Bill (1914-1999) and daughter Patricia (1946-2012). Born in Brooklyn, NY to Paul and Dorothy Gundacker (nee Pitts) April 2, 1921, she grew up in Floral Park, New York, but spent every summer in Wolfeboro with her family at Point Breeze and during that time, developed a deep and enduring love for Wolfeboro and Lake Wentworth. As World War II started, out of a deep love for her country, she joined the US Navy as one of the first WAVES to enlist and was assigned to the Naval Public Relations office in New York City. Amongst other duties, it was her honor to be used as one of U.S.Navy Wave Recruitment poster models. To this day, many of the recruiting posters she is featured in are in the National World War II Museum, as well as the National Archives. It was during the time that she met and fell in love with her husband, Bill, and they lived and raised their two daughters in Stratford, Connecticut. They were involved with many different business ventures, but the most important one brought Jinny and Bill back to Wolfeboro when they built and ran Pleasant Valley Lodges. On the shore of Lake Wentworth, Pleasant Valley Lodges provided a wonderful vacation spot for many families that would become lifelong friends of the Sexton family. After selling the cottages and the business, they purchased property in what is now Wentworth Estates and built their home there. Many happy hours were spent in that home by them and their family and friends on the shore of their beloved Lake Wentworth. She leaves behind her daughter Barbara Vozzo of Wolfeboro, NH, and Orange, Connecticut; her son in law John Vozzo of Orange, Connecticut; granddaughter Jennifer Vozzo and great granddaughter Alexandra Vozzo of Branford, Connecticut, as well as many lifelong friends.
