Elaine Barnes Lawrence, 90, of Wolfeboro passed away in her sleep on September 10, 2011. Elaine was born April 12, 1921 in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Ballou Barnes and Dellora Sims Barnes. She grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, graduated from Western Maryland College, and was proud to have served in the Navy WAVES in Pensacola during World War II. During her adult life, Elaine was active in her church and community and loved to play bridge and golf. Trained in violin and piano, music was a lifelong interest and she regularly attended and enjoyed live popular and classical music performances. She was highly skilled in the crafts of tailoring, knitting and quilting and continued to make quilts and knitted scarves for her friends and family until late in life. Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Richard Allen Lawrence. She is survived by her sister, Charlotte Davidson of New London, NH; her daughter Patricia and husband Robert Leipold of Wolfeboro; son Charles Lawrence and wife Sandra of Rockville, Maryland; her grandchildren Katie Leipold, Jen Fisher, and Dylan, Tyler, & Michael Lawrence; and great-grandchildren Annabel & Miles Lawrence and Mackenna Fisher. She was an eternal optimist and known to provide comfort to others with sayings such as “things will turn out for the best in the end.” Elaine also was a dear friend to many and a dedicated family member. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do something special for a child or contribute to a child’s educational future. A graveside Committal and Celebration of Life service is planned on Cape Cod, MA.
