Tuftonboro-Frank P. Gariepy, 92, of Union Wharf Rd., Center Tuftonboro, died February 3, 2012 at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro. Born July 24, 1919 in Haverhill, MA he was the last surviving descendant and the fifth of eight children born to the late Oliver and Mary (LeGault) Gariepy. A lover of the Winnipesaukee area, he and his family left their hometown of Haverhill 40 years ago to move to Tuftonboro. Mr. Gariepy worked as a machinist and welder for Farnworth Corporation, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Ford Motor Corporation. After his retirement he and his wife worked out of their home making attachments for industrial sewing machines that were used in the manufacture of Converse sneakers. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was proud of the vegetable garden that he grew for many years. He was also an avid sports fan with a great sense of humor. Until this year, he spent many winters in Florida where he enjoyed bowling and golf well into his eighties. His love of people, being a great storyteller and conversationalist made it easy for him to make friends wherever he went. Pre-deceased by his wife Cecile Mary (Homan) Gariepy he is survived by his granddaughter Paula Gariepy of Tuftonboro and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Townhouse Cemetery in the spring. The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wolfeboro is assisting the family with the arrangements.
