Wolfeboro-Robert Joseph Bernier, 82 died November 17 at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton. Born in Port Jefferson, New York April 10, 1930 son of the late Samuel Isaac and Valerie (Gilbert) Bernier he grew up in Mt. Sinai, NY. Mr. Bernier served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Bob worked as a mason contractor for many years, building homes on Long Island, New York. A very successful business allowed him to be able to purchase a pleasure boat, on which he was able to take his family on trips to many seaports in the northeast and upstate NY. Later, he and Doris, his wife of 55 years, began spending winters in Florida and traveling around the country in their motor home. After retiring they sold their home on Long Island and moved to The Villages, Florida. When Doris passed away in 2006, he moved to NH to be closer to his children. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary while he was boating and later became a member of the Sam’s RV Club and other R.V. Clubs. Mr. Bernier is survived by 2 sons David Bernier of Wolfeboro, Robert Bernier of Hayward, WI, a daughter Denise McCarthy of Wolfeboro, 2 sisters Doris Ackerman and Diana Heilman both of Manorville, Long Island, NY and 6 grandchildren. A graveside service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday November 20, at Lakeview Cemetery Wolfeboro. The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wolfeboro is assisting the family with the arrangements.
