Shirley Snow Blue

December 18, 1922 — December 13, 2012

Shirley Snow Blue died on December 13, 2012 in her beloved home, Alaya, in Eaton NH, five days before her 90th birthday. She was surrounded by the love of family and friends throughout her brief illness, and departed this life with grace and beauty – “dissolving into eternity”, as she often phrased it. Shirley was born in Orange, NJ in 1922, lived in Virginia, New York, New Hampshire, Texas, Kansas, California, Pennsylvania, Taiwan, and Germany before returning home to Eaton in 1976. She received her AA degree from Stephens College, BA from American University and Ed.M from Boston University. She was an actress, a Speech, Drama and Human Relations Teacher, a Human Relations Consultant, and a Hospice Volunteer for many years. Predeceased by her husband, Col. Douglas Blue, to whom she was married for 59 years and 11 months. She is survived by her children, Peter and his wife, Joyce, of Snowville NH, Donald and his wife, Vicki, of Brisbane, Australia, Heather and her husband, Mark Schwartz of Laytonsville MD, and Holly and her husband, Dick Fortin, of Snowville NH, and their respective families. She also leaves eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Leslie Snow Feron and Elizabeth Snow of Snowville. Shirley’s life was blessed and fulfilled in every way. She was gifted with a loving, supportive husband, beautiful, talented children who are happily married, wonderful, bright grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her lifetime, she traveled to 45 countries, each a life inspiring and transformational spiritual journey. In her later years, she came to be familiar, often to complete strangers, as the “joke lady”. Armed with a collection of puns and jokes, she would approach folks to share the latest funnies with them in virtually any venue where she may be, whether while shopping, or dining out, or visiting friends. Always laughing and leaving others smiling. There will be a celebration of Shirley’s life at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the White Mountain Waldorf School, P. O. Box 1069, Conway NH 03818, or to the Visiting Nurses Home Care and Hospice of Carroll County, P. O. Box 432, North Conway NH 03860, 603.356.7006 or at www.vnhch.org .
