Kathleen Ann McKeon

July 18, 1938 — May 17, 2013

Kathleen Ann McKeon “Kay” “Loved Boating” On May 17, 2013, Kathleen (Kay) McKeon passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Her Irish fighting spirit was apparent to everyone who knew her. She was born July 18, 1938 in Boston, Mass. Soon thereafter, her family moved from Cambridge to Belmont, where she grew up. After graduating from Dunbarton College in Washington, D.C., she entered the workforce as a computer programmer; at the time this was a relatively new field of work which she continued throughout her career. She lived in Boston for many years and was employed at Stone and Webster and later Raytheon. She was an avid golfer and would spend her weekends in Wolfeboro, N.H. at the family’s home located at the end of Estabrook Road overlooking Wolfeboro Bay. In the mid 1970’s into the late 1980’s Kay and her mother owned and operated “The Wool Corner” in downtown Wolfeboro. Kay always loved boating and was an active member of the Wolfeboro Corinthian Yacht Club. She especially enjoyed her home on Melody Island. Kay also enjoyed traveling to Ireland, Bermuda, many of the Caribbean Islands and Colorado. Upon retirement she resided in Wolfeboro and Bonita Springs Florida. She had many great adventures in the Florida Gulf Coast on boat trips with the “Bonita Bay Cruising Club” where she was a dynamic member of the Yacht Club of Bonita Bay. A strong network of friends supported and sustained Kay over the years. She loved celebrations and took pleasure in watching her grand nieces and nephews grow. On Friday mornings she enjoyed her weekly breakfast club and will be remembered as someone who lived life to the fullest. She will be deeply missed. Kay loved cats and was a supporter of the Humane Society. She leaves behind her companion, Keelan who comforted and entertained her during the last months of her life. Kay was predeceased by her parents, Eveline (Quinn) and Edward McKeon; as well as her brother James. She is survived by her nieces, Kathleen McKeon of Portland, Maine, Kelly Demain and husband Doug of Wolfeboro, along with their children, Hannah, Quinn, Reid, Tessa, Nathaniel and Liza. The family would like to thank Dr. William Barton and the entire staff at Huggins Hospital for the compassion, kindness and excellent care they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kay to the Lakes Region Humane Society. Calling Hours will be Tuesday May 21, 2013, 5 to 7 PM at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home, 85 Mill St. Wolfeboro, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Wednesday, May 22 at St Katharine Drexel Church in Alton. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Wolfeboro.
