Edward McGovern

Ossipee, NH - Edward Arnold McGovern, 66 of Scotch Pine Lane, Center Ossipee, died May 25, 2013 at his home. Born in Plymouth, MA October 11, 1946 son of the late Frederick Richard and Barbara (Knight) McGovern he grew up in Plymouth and lived in South Plymouth until retiring to Center Ossipee 10 years ago. Ed served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was also a Civil Defense Agent for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He was a License Practical Nurse and worked for Braintree Respiratory Hospital in Braintree, MA as a respiratory nurse. During his nursing career Ed was honored with the “Best Liked” award by both staff and patients. He had a great deal of empathy, humor and skill in his profession. Ed was also an avid Patriots Fan and enjoyed Astronomy and has a star name after him. In addition, Ed was committed to making sure the veterans at the full care veterans home, the Sandpiper Inn in Plymouth, MA where his brother-in-law resides always had a bright and merry Christmas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Sonia Barbosa at the Sandpiper Inn, P.O. Box 937, Manomet, MA 02345 so that his “Christmas for the Veterans” project can continue. Survivors include his wife Joanne (Rougeau) McGovern of Center Ossipee, 2 sons Frederick Richard McGovern of Halifax, MA, and Timothy Michael McGovern of Center Ossipee, 2 daughters Marnie Priscilla Beveridge of Madison, NH, and Honour Barbara Lynn Kidd of Center Ossipee, a brother James McGovern of Plymouth, MA, a sister Chari Abrams of Plymouth, MA, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. At his request there will be no services. The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Ossipee and Wolfeboro, NH is assisting the family with the arrangements.
