Hale Charles Reed

January 28, 1933 — July 28, 2013

Wolfeboro, NH - Hale Charles Reed, 80, of Sewall Road, Wolfeboro, NH formerly of Simsbury, CT, died July 28, 2013, at Mountain View Community in Ossipee, NH. Hale was born January 28, 1933 in Kingston, PA, son of the late Samuel and Mary (Semetkovsky) Reed. He spent his boyhood and young adult life in West Hartford, CT and was a graduate of William Hall High School in 1950. In 1954, he graduated from the University of Maine where he met and married his devoted wife of 58 years, Nancy. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany where he was discharged from active duty as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1956. He continued his service in the Reserves until 1962 and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. He started his insurance career in 1957, as an underwriter at Travelers Insurance Companies, later becoming a Vice President of Casualty-Property Personal Lines. He also worked at Covenant Mutual, Covenant Life, and Connecticut National Life in various executive positions. While in Connecticut, he was active in his community as president of Hopmeadow Country Club in Simsbury and board member of the Hartford Dispensary. In 1988, Hale and Nancy relocated to Wolfeboro, where he worked for Maxfield Real Estate for 15 years. He continued his active community involvement as a parishioner of Saint Katharine Drexel Church in Alton, president of the Wolfeboro Lions Club and the Wolfeboro Corinthian Yacht Club, and a board member of the Wolfeboro Community Bandstand and Lakes Region Conservation Trust. Hale thoroughly enjoyed boating on Lake Winnipesaukee, skiing, golfing, tennis, and travelling with his wife. He was the consummate do-it-yourselfer; building porches, garages, re-doing basements and kitchens. He took great pride and enjoyment in his grandchildren and their accomplishments. Most recently he enjoyed many afternoons of playing spirited bridge with his buddies. Hale is pre-deceased by his granddaughter Sara Marie Fritzinger and his brother, Richard Reed. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Karakas) Reed of Wolfeboro, a son David Hale Reed of Canton, CT, three daughters Kimberly Reed of Melvin Village, NH, Dana Fritzinger of Boca Raton, FL and Barbara Reed Patterson of Calais, VT. He also leaves seven grandchildren; Hanna Fritzinger, Michael Reed, Abigail Reed, Zoe Reed, Reed Patterson, Alison Reed, and Trevor Patterson. His twin sister, Joan Buttler of Pittsford, NY, and sister, Marilyn Gengras, of Orleans, MA, survive him. A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 AM, Monday Aug. 5, followed by lunch, at Saint Katharine Drexel Church on Router 28 in Alton. Burial will be 4 PM Monday Aug. 5, at Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Friends of the Wolfeboro Community Bandstand, P.O. Box 2055, Wolfeboro, NH 03894 or Saint Katherine Drexel, P.O.
