Shannon Tibbetts

March 30, 1949 — June 10, 2014

Beloved Nonie, Mother, Teacher and Friend of all she knew Shannon Louise McCaffrey Tibbetts was born March 30, 1949 in Lancaster, New Hampshire to Harold and Helen Tenney McCaffrey. She was the youngest of three children. Shannon was educated in the Lancaster public school system and was a member of the last class to graduate from Lancaster High School, now White Mountains Regional High School. She attended Plymouth State College and received a Bachelor of Education degree in 1971, specializing in elementary education and her Masters of Education in May of 1983 from Plymouth State College. In 1972 she married Barry Tibbetts and together they settled in Wolfeboro, NH to teach in the Governor Wentworth Regional School District system and to raise their three children, Christopher, Andrew and Jennifer. Shannon was completing her 43rd year of teaching public school in New Hampshire, her first year in Londonderry with the last 42 years being spent as a 6th grade teacher, first at Carpenter and then the newly built Crescent Lake School. Shannon has taught two and three generations of families in Wolfeboro. The school and community’s people were the heart of who she was. When not in school, she was always there for whoever needed her. She is known especially for spearheading the Boston Museum of Science Trip for the local 6th grade students, the winter ski program, and countless other school events. She considered the school community a part of her family. When she wasn’t teaching, Shannon could be found visiting with her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. During the summer, she spent time at the local beaches, with family on Cape Cod and Vermont, or on an annual trip to Santa’s Village (where she worked as a youth) to visit childhood friends and share her memories with her family. Pre-deceased by ex-husband Barry Tibbetts and a brother Michael McCaffrey, she is survived by 2 sons Christopher Tibbetts and his wife Shannon of Wolfeboro, NH; Andrew Tibbetts and his wife Kristen of Bridgeport, CT; a daughter Jennifer Weiblen and her husband Charles of Wrentham, MA; a sister Susan Burrill and her husband Kenneth of Wolcott, VT; a sister-in-law Donna McCaffrey of Yarmouthport, MA; 10 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling Hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday June 17, at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home, 85 Mill St., Wolfeboro, NH.
