G. Robert Lockhart

June 9, 1926 — December 5, 2014

Bob Lockhart-- Beloved Grandpa Wolfeboro--G. Robert (Bob) Lockhart, 88, of Overlook Drive, Wolfeboro died unexpectedly December 5, 2014 at his home. Born in Glenwood, MN June 9, 1926, only son of the late Glenn and Mattie (Gapen) Lockhart, he grew up in Sioux Falls, SD. A real “man's man”, he developed keen interests in Boy Scouts, duck hunting, fishing, and many sports-- playing varsity football, basketball, and track before graduating from high school in 1944. Bob entered the Navy at that time and was a cadet in the Air Corps training program, where he played intercollegiate football. When World War II ended, he entered Northwestern University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and met his future wife, Ramona Taylor. After graduating from Northwestern with a BS in business administration in 1949, he embarked on a long career in sales and marketing. He worked successively with Minute Maid, Morton's Frozen Foods, Fairmont Foods, Whitman's Chocolates, and National Sugar. He finished his career as Vice President of Marketing with Fromageries Bel in Hoboken, New Jersey, where he was president of the Rotary Club and Chairman of the Manufacturers Council of the National Food Distributors Association. Between career and raising four kids, he still found time to devote to community activities. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Grace Church in Ridgewood, NJ. He was also involved in the YMCA board, Gideons, Ridgewood Junior Football board, president of Basketball Association of Ridgewood, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Parks and Recreation Board. For his volunteer work over the years in many youth related activities, he received the Ridgewood YMCA Meads Award “for outstanding services to youth”, in 1974. Bob had been a resident of Wolfeboro since retiring in 1990. He dearly loved this area and was very active in church and community. He continued to serve in Rotary. After golf outings as a member of Kingswood Country Club, he could often be seen cheering for local high school athletes. He remained active in supporting youth on the board of Life Bridge. He also served as chairman of the board of trustees at First Congregational Church in Ossipee. He and his wife, Ramona, hosted a weekly morning area men's Bible study/prayer breakfast at their home for 14 years. Other than being with his grandchildren, perhaps his greatest passion in his later years was serving many hours as chairman of the board of Taylor Christian Foundation. Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ramona, and four children-- Rebecca Lockhart of Stamford, CT, Jeffrey Lockhart and wife Nancy of Concord, NH, Sally Mohr and husband Scott of Greenwich, CT, and Gregory Lockhart and wife Mary Ellen of East Greenwich, RI. He also leaves 8 loving grandchildren: Brian Lockhart and wife Gabi, Scott Mohr, Kathryn Bilder, Jenny Lockhart, Laura Bilder, Bradley Lockhart, Karen Lockhart, and Katherine Mohr. A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church of Ossipee on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the First Congregational Church in Ossipee, NH or the Cornerstone Christian Academy, 129 New Hampshire 28, Ossipee, NH, 03864.
