William Lewis Shafer Jr.

Born February 10,1933, at Maplewood Farm, Rock Tavern, NY, to William L. Shafer, Sr. and Dorothea A. ( Farnum) Shafer. Graduated Public School (Class 1950) from Washingtonville (NY) Central School. He attended W.VA. Wesleyan College (Buckiannon, WVA) Class of 1954. Bethany (W.VA) College; Boston (MA) University Methodist Theological School; and UNH/ Durham (NH). HE was Ordained Deacon at the 1958 NH Annual Methodist Conference (Rochester, NH) by Bishop John Wesley Lord. He was Ordained Elder at the 1960 NH Annual Methodist Conference (Nashua, NH) by Bishop Lord. He married Katherine J. Smith of Buckhannon, WV, on January 31,1952. Rev. Shafer’s first Church Assignment in the W.VA Methodist Conference was the W. Main St. Methodist Church in Grafton,WV. He then was assigned to the Moundsville(WV) Circuit (7 Rural Churches; The Boulder Circuit (Volga, WV) (8 Rural Churches, and the Salem (WV) Circuit (5 Rural Churches). He transferred to the Maine Methodist Conference to serve North and East Vassalboro Methodist Churches and the North Vassalboro Baptist Church. In 1957 he transferred to the NH Methodist Conference Serving the Milan-W, Milan-Dummer Parish, Enfield- Grantham Parish, Chichester Parish, E. Rochester – Bethany Parish, Sandown-St. Mattew Parish, Woodsville-N. Haverhill Parish, Fremont- Peoples Parish, and Center Ossipee-South Tamworth- Sanbornville Parish. Thus Completing a 46 year Pastoral Ministry. Rev. Shafer is talented and was known for his Music Skills early in his life. In High School he took Trumpet Lessons, Playing in the school band, a Community Concert Band, a Professional Marching Band, and a Local Gospel Choir Broadcasting over an Area Radio Station. He loved Singing, Directing and forming Choral Groups, Writing Music, Developing Music Programs, and Teaching Music. He was qualified to teach music courses in smaller public schools. Known for developing denominational and ecumenical choirs and hymn festivals. Possessed avid interest in history served 3 terms as Chaplain New Hampshire General Court (State Legislature), retired Civil Air Patrol Chaplain, Charter Member Fremont NH Lion Club, past member Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club, Member, Former International Director, past International President/ Board Chairman and Life Member Number 4 Radio Emergency Associated Citizens Teams (R.E.A.C.T), Charter member Windrifter Resort Association 26 years WRA President and currently member of WRA Board of Directors. He was remarried to Meriam Pacot Shafer from Philippines on September 14, 2010. He passed away March 03,2015 at the age of 82 at Catholic Medical Center (CMC) in Manchester , surrounding by his wife and step daughter. His Memorial Service will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church in 24 Main St., East Rochester, NH 03868 on March 14, 2015 2:00PM and for the 2nd memorial service will be held at Moultonville United Methodist Church in 96 Moultonville Rd, Center Ossipee, NH 03814 on March 28, 2015 2:00PM.
