Wolfeboro-Janet (Bennett) Douglas, 105 of Center St., Wolfeboro, died August 19, 2015 at Mountain View Community in Ossipee. Janet was born May 29, 1910 at home on the family’s Mirror Lake Farm to Maurice Bennett of Tuftonboro and Annie (Kidd) Bennett of Scotland. She attended local schools starting her education in the one room school house in Mirror Lake then attending Wolfeboro Schools graduating from Brewster Academy with the class of 1929. After graduation, Janet worked in the Boston Area for three years until lack of employment due to the depression. She moved back to Wolfeboro where she married her high school sweetheart, James R. Douglas. The couple remained in Wolfeboro where they reared their three children. Janet was active in the community serving as a Red Cross volunteer during World War II, president of the VFW Auxiliary after World War II, a lifelong member of the Rebeccas, Master of Lakeshore Grange and for many years worked Outreach program cooking and serving meals at All Saints Episcopal Church. She was always a willing caregiver reaching out to those whom she felt were less fortunate than she. Pre-deceased by her beloved husband James in 1961 and her four brothers Donald, John, Douglas and David Bennett, she is survived by her three children and their spouses, E. David and Grace Douglas of Wolfeboro, Jean and Charles Orr of Nashua and Russell and Willa Douglas of Bend, OR, her sister Sadie Thornton of Rockport, TX, seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday August 24, at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home, 85 Mill St., Wolfeboro. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro.
