Bruce Kenneth Flint passed away peacefully at his home on Sept. 28th, 2023. Bruce Flint was born June 30, 1938, at Leominster Hospital and worked on his family's farm in Lancaster, MA throughout his formative years. Bruce graduated from Lancaster High School and continued his education at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA.
Upon graduating, Bruce was hand-picked by Paul McPherson to work in a new optics development group within McPherson Instruments. When Mr. McPherson passed away, Bruce took over the business which later became known as Acton Research Corporation. Acton Research developed and produced optical coatings and instrumentation, and for over thirty years, Bruce worked there as a hands-on owner. Growing the small business was his passion, and he was proud to employ over fifty people in the Acton, MA facility. Among other major achievements, the company designed and manufactured coatings for the Widefield Planetary Camera (WFPC-2) that provided correction to the NASA Hubble Space Telescope during its first servicing mission in 1993. He retired in 2000 to live full time in Wolfeboro, NH.
Outside of work, Bruce was a dedicated husband, father, and outdoorsman. In 1968, he and his family started spending spring and summertime visiting Lake Winnipesaukee. They later built a chalet in Alton Bay, and in 1985, Bruce and his wife Jean built their waterfront dream home in Wolfeboro. Throughout his life, Bruce had many pastimes including skeet shooting, fishing, hunting, waterskiing, alpine skiing, and golf. Never the fair-weather fan, he enjoyed watching Patriots and Red Sox games through thick and thin. His family brought him the greatest joy, and he passed his love of the lake and the land down many generations. He was grateful to see not only his children but also his grandchildren and great granddaughter grow up.
Bruce is predeceased by his father William Flint and mother Frances Flint (née Floyd). He leaves behind his wife of sixty-five years, Jean Flint (née Laviolette); son Scott Flint of Leominster, MA; daughter Deborah Flint-Baum and son-in-law David Baum of Wolfeboro; grandson Joshua Flint, his wife Kim, and great-granddaughter Julianna of Lunenberg, MA; and granddaughters Julia Baum of Malden, MA and Monica Baum of Brooklyn, NY. He is survived by his sisters Barbara Cook (née Flint) of Pace, FL and Marilyn Flint Jacques of Shrewsbury, MA, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are private. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a later date. Donations may be made in Bruce's name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association -
