Dennis (Denis) R Houle, known as “Denden” to all his younger family members, 71 of Rochester, NH died Monday April 4, 2022 with family by his side. He was born in Ste Paul de Chester, Canada to Leo (Pops) and Blanche (Nolette) Houle. He and his family resided in Canada where he attended local schools. The family moved to Sanford, ME in 1959 after the passing of Dennis’ mother. His father suffered from turbeculosis and went into a rehabilition facility when Dennis was a teenager. His older brother, Donald took Dennis and his brother John to live with him. Dennis started working at the age of 15. Dennis enjoyed spending many weekends at his sisters’ house watching TV with his nieces and nephew, they enjoyed jumping on their big uncle. His other favorite enjoyment at that time was to read his many comic books. He also loved to go to the drive- in movies with family and friends. Later he moved back to Canada with Pops where he bought a big farm house (77-79) where his sisters would bring their kids and they enjoyed Christmas and vacations. Dennis was a great source of entertainment for all the kids, even spending one funny night chasing a bat that invaded the house. Pops and Dennis then moved to Kingston NH to live with his brother Donald. He worked at the local mills and did not like it. While looking at job ads, there was one that said Nurses Aide Positions. This ended up being the job Dennis enjoyed as a career. He retired after many years on the job, achieving a 25 year nursing pin in the process. Dennis and his sister Cecile and husband Joe bought a house together in Wells ME. She loved plants and Dennis learned a lot from her about them. Every spring, they would dig up and divide plants. Each year they would donate over 200 plants to Wells High School for fundraising. Their house was the place to go for perennials for the Wells area. He enjoyed playing cards. One of his favorite games was “The Marble Game”. He enjoyed raising pigeons with his brother, John. They would travel great distances for Pigeons Shows and met and became good friends with many other breeders. Dennis loved to travel to Canada with his sisters, Joan and Cecile to visit his brother, Normand and family. They would return with their Canadian food supply. He is survived by his brother, Normand Houle of Victoriaville Canada and his sister, Joan Cram of Wells, ME. He is pre-deceased by two brothers, Donald Houle of Kingston, NH and Jean-Paul Houle of Somersworth, NH and one sister, Cecile Roux of Wells, ME. “Denden” had may nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
