Mac Larson, 60, of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, passed away on September 16, 2026, after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia, surrounded by the family who loved him deeply.
Mac was born to the late Don and Joan Larson and grew up in Andover, Massachusetts, before moving with his family to Bedford, New Hampshire. As a young man, he attended Brewster Academy as a boarding student, never knowing that years later he would return to the Lakes Region and make Wolfeboro his home.
He went on to attend Bradford College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, and later received his master’s degree in Elementary Education from Cambridge College.
Education was at the heart of Mac’s professional life. He spent many years teaching second grade at Carpenter School, where he cared deeply for his students and the school community. He later taught in Careers in Education at the Lakes Region Technology Center, helping inspire young people who were considering careers in education. Mac also enjoyed coaching baseball and sharing his love of sports with young people.
Outside of the classroom, Mac loved golf, hiking, skiing, hockey, and cheering on his beloved Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, and Boston Celtics. He loved his dog, Grady, and was known for his sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh.
More than anything, Mac loved his family. He was the beloved husband of Heather, his wife of 24 years. Of all the roles and accomplishments in his life, Mac was most proud of his son, Healy. Being Healy’s dad was one of the greatest joys of his life, and his love and pride for him were immeasurable.
Mac is survived by his wife, Heather Larson of Wolfeboro; his son, Healy Larson of Wolfeboro; his stepdaughter, Allison Cochrane and her husband, Samuel, of Peterborough, New Hampshire; his stepson, Everett Wyers of Pacific Grove, California; and his three treasured granddaughters.
He is also survived by his sisters, Shannon Reilly and her husband, Lawrence, of Hopkinton, Massachusetts; Karen McCormack of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and Kristen Larson and her husband, Jeff, of Los Angeles, California, as well as several nieces and nephew. He was predeceased by his parents, Don and Joan Larson.
In keeping with Mac and his family’s hope that his life may continue to help others, his brain will be donated to Massachusetts General Hospital for research into Lewy Body Dementia and other neurological diseases.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church Wolfeboro, located at 115 South Main Street, followed by a private gathering for family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mac’s memory to the Carpenter School Student Activities Fund, PO Box 659, Wolfeboro, NH 03894.
Mac will be remembered for the lives he touched as a teacher, coach, husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend. His family will carry with them his humor, his love, and the many memories they shared with him
