Gary Frederick Uthenwoldt of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2022, at Oceanside Center in Hampton, New Hampshire, after a sudden and brave battle with cancer. His daughter, Lauren, was by his side. Gary was born on October 25, 1944, in Stamford, Connecticut. He graduated from the University of Bridgeport, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, and a master’s degree in manufacturing engineering. He worked as a project engineer for AH Emery Corporation in New Canaan, Connecticut. He continued to work as a consulting engineer after moving to New Hampshire with his wife and daughter, working for big name brands such as Nike, where he helped design the Nike Air sneaker. A born engineer, Gary loved nothing more than to build and design, and remained proud of his work and his master’s thesis in college all his life—as well as the dock he built and designed for his home on Lake Winnipesaukee. Gary had a strong lifelong faith, and was an active member of All Saints Church, where he was known by fellow parishioners as a sweet and gentle man who was always willing to help others and could fix anything. Gary enjoyed reading, especially anything related to science, mechanics, or how things were made. He was a lover of the outdoors, and could be found at Lake Winnipesaukee year round: swimming and boating in the summer, and cross-country skiing and mountain biking in the winter. A huge fan of food, Gary delighted in everything from lemon meringue pie and German chocolate cake to mashed potatoes and prime rib, and his family will forever treasure holiday memories of meals with him. Gary is survived by his daughter, Lauren Uthenwoldt; his twin sister Judy (Gerald) Hess; his younger sister Nancy (Jim) Thomas; and many nieces and a nephew. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, May and Frederick Uthenwoldt. A memorial service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held in the spring at All Saints Church in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Donations may be made in Gary’s name to his beloved All Saints Church. The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with the arrangements.
