James B. Libby, 76, passed away Monday, September 25 at his home in Melvin Village, NH, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 2, 1941 in North Conway. He grew up in Gorham, NH where he fostered a love of skiing and helped cut trails at Wildcat Mountain. After graduating high school, Jim moved to Massachusetts where he met his first wife Jeanne Mac Leod in Watertown, MA and they created a home in Billerica, MA where they raised two children. Jim went to work for Reece Corporation in Waltham, MA. He earned an Associate degree from Middlesex Community College and studied at Wentworth Institute where he developed skills that ultimately led to a long career in building construction. In 1984, Jim married Elizabeth Weber of Chelmsford, MA ,where he built their first home. In 1990, they relocated to Tuftonboro, NH and established a successful building and remodeling business around Lake Winnipesaukee. Committed to service in his community, Jim was a member of the Wolfeboro Rotary club for more than 20 years. He twice served as the club president and received the Paul Harris Award. Jim was instrumental in the development and construction of the Wolfeboro Youth Center where he served on the Board of Directors. He also served on the board for The Ledges. Jim had a passion for antique cars and he enjoyed collecting and restoring classic Thunderbirds. He was a member of the New England Vintage Thunderbird Club. Jim is survived by his wife Elizabeth and his children Karen Wilkinson of Brentwood, NH and Eric Libby and his wife Renee of Traverse City, MI, as well as, his stepchildren Gary Weber and wife Tracy of Turners Falls, MA; Jean Cannon of S.Portland, ME and, Julianne Corey and her husband Brian of Bedford, MA. Also, two grandchildren Katharine and Caroline Wilkinson and step-grandchildren Gregory Walsh, Jason Walsh, Erica Brod, Lee Cannon, Andrew Weber, Brooks Cannon, Lindsay Cannon, Ethan Corey and Emmet Corey, as well as, four step-great-grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his brother Jeffrey Libby and his wife Carolyn of Fryeburg, ME. He was pre-deceased by brother David R. Libby and sister Joanna (Libby) Kelly. A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 7 at 1:30pm at All Saints Church in Wolfeboro.
