Jean Frances (Wootten) Shenton, 88 of Westwood Drive, Wolfeboro passed away April 11, 2022 at Huggins Hospital. Born in Burtonsville, MD February 14, 1934, daughter of the late John Edward and Eunice (Holland) Wootten, she grew up in MD and lived in Winchester, VA prior to moving to Wolfeboro 20 years ago. Jean graduated from Western Maryland College with a BA in music. She worked at Fort Meade as a secretary prior to her marriage. In Wolfeboro she was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she served as church pianist and church librarian for many years. Prior to that, she was church pianist for Redland Baptist Church in Derwood, MD. She was also a member of the Ladies of the Lake Quilt Guild making numerous quilts for David’s House. An avid reader, she was a frequent patron of the Wolfeboro Public Library and The Country Bookseller. She especially loved attending the Huggins Hospital Street Fair book tent and would visit several times throughout the weekend, gleeful about the treasures she found. One of her greatest joys was to share books with other people. Survivors include 2 sons Jack Shenton (Sharon) of Maitland, FL, Douglas Shenton (Becky) of Clinton, SC, 2 daughters Linda Matchett (Wes) of Wolfeboro, Susan Greger of St Peter, MN, a brother Lawrence Wootten (Colleen) of Hampton, VA, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a niece, and three nephews. A Memorial Service will be 10 AM April 30, at the Wolfeboro First Baptist Church. The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with the arrangements.
