Joseph Labretto Jr. of Wolfeboro, NH formerly of Pocasset, MA passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family, and his beloved dog Bailey on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
Joe was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Claire Labretto, and his parents Giuseppe and Albina Labretto. Joe is survived by his four daughters Rosemary Labretto-Burke and her husband Edward Burke of Buzzards Bay, Laurel Bragg of Centerville, Kathi-Jo Labretto of Attleboro, and Susan Hatfield of Centerville. A sister Theresa Gratis and nephew Michael Gratis both of Buzzards Bay; as well as several grand-children and great-grandchildren.
Joe was a Korean War Veteran, a lover of country and community. Prior to moving to Wolfeboro, NH Joe was the principal owner/operator of Buzzards Bay Garage, a Chevrolet dealership held within the Labretto family for 80 years. Joe was active in town government. He assumed many roles within the Town of Bourne including but not limited to Town Moderator, Park Commissioner of the Bourne Scenic Park, Member of the Bourne Recreation Authority, and the Zoning Board of Appeals where he was instrumental in designating land for open space that remains undeveloped today. He was an avid sailor and photographer having some of his photos grace the cover of Ensign Magazine. He served as past commander of the Buzzards Bay Power Squadron and taught safe boating classes .
After moving to Wolfeboro, NH Joe started riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was a member of the NH Patriot Guard Riders, Concord HOG chapter, Heritage riders group, and the oldest riding member of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Nova Scotia chapter I. Every year Joe took part in the Wolfeboro 4th of July parade decorating his bike and himself head to toe in red, white, and blue. Joe toured the US extensively on his various motorcycles and at the age of 94 was still riding. He enjoyed his last ride during Laconia bike week June 2024. In the winter months Joe enjoyed woodworking in the shop attached to his home. He was a skilled craftsman and shared his creations with family and friends throughout the community.
Joe lived a long, full, active life and will be remembered as a generous man with a great sense of humor who would give you the shirt off his back.
Joe, together with his wife, will be interred at Bourne National Cemetery, on October 21, 2024, at 11:30 am.
A reception will follow; at which time his family asks that you share some of your favorite stories of him.
