WOLFEBORO - Katharine (Westerfield) Pond of Wolfeboro passed away on November 17 at Huggins Hospital where she received the tenderest of care in the ICU. Her family was by her side. Katharine was born in Glen Ridge, NJ on June 10, 1924, daughter of the late John R. Westerfield and Katharine (Long) Westerfield. Kathie and her husband Warren raised their family in Hamden, CT. After their children were grown the Ponds lived on Water Island in the USVI for twenty-one years. They have lived at the Sugar Hill Retirement Community since 1999. During WWII, while her husband was overseas, Kathie drove ambulances in Staten Island, NY. In Wolfeboro, she was a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood. Katharine is survived by her husband of 75 years, Warren A. Pond. Their 76th wedding anniversary will be on November 27. Kathie leaves her son, Skip Pond, and his wife Madeline Polss of Newport, RI, and her daughter, Cindy Barnard, and her husband Dan of Melvin Village. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Matthew and Miles Barnard, Camden Pond, and Eliza Pond Quick; and six great-grandchildren: Tabitha, Claudia, Grace and Sophie Barnard, and Easton and Hayden Quick. A Memorial Service will be held at the Melvin Village Community Church on Saturday, November 23 at 11:00 a.m. The Baker-Gagne Funeral Homes and Cremation Service of Wolfeboro is assisting the family with the arrangements.
