Katherine McKellar went to be with her Lord Jesus on April 1, 2023. Katherine was born in Yonkers, New York in 1924. She graduated from the Charles E. Gorton High School in 1942 and from The Berkeley School in 1945 in New York.
Katherine was one of three daughters born to Samuel Zguris and Anna Zguris (Lacho). Her parents came to this country from Czechoslovakia in the late 1910’s and settled in Yonkers, New York. Her sister, Nancy Zguris, pre-deceased her in 1989. Her other sister, Betty Nemec, pre-deceased her in 2022.
It was in Yonkers that Katherine met and then married her true love, Robert (who pre-deceased her in 2010) in June of 1950. They had 60 wonderful years together. Katherine was a devoted wife to Robert and to their three beautiful girls. After living in several places in the United States and England, the family located to Wilton, CT. It was there that Katherine and Robert built an engineering consulting firm, The McKellar Corporation. In retirement, they built a home in Wolfeboro, NH, where they had honeymooned, and wintered in Vero Beach, FL.
Katherine is survived by her three daughters: Barbara Schrank, Deborah McKellar, and Kathryn Barto; Granddaughters Alexandra Schrank and Jacqueline Barto; and Son-in-Law, Richard Barto.
Katherine’s first priority was always her family. She had the ability to empathize with others and truly spread love and goodwill to all she met. She always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes.
