Maureen FitzGerald Jutras – beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister –of Wellesley, Mass. and Wolfeboro, N.H., departed this world July 9, 2022 in Boston. Born in Cambridge, Mass. to Joseph and Mary Broderick FitzGerald, she was the eldest of seven children. A graduate of Mount St. Mary’s College in N.H., Maureen taught for the Department of Defense in Okinawa, Japan and went on to earn a Master’s in Educational Leadership at Wheelock College. Maureen a lifelong educator, with her infectious spirit and curiosity, influenced the lives of thousands of PreK – 8th grade students as well as their families. As an educator in both Catholic and public schools, she nurtured the development of curiosity and creativity throughout the learning process. As principal she led the St. Mary’s of the Assumption School in Brookline, Mass. for 15 years. Following her retirement from St. Mary’s, she remained active, serving as a facilitator for the National Principal’s Program at the Harvard School of Education, supporting the St. John’s/St. Paul’s Collaborative School Program in Wellesley, and volunteering to tutor adults in ESL. Through her eternal optimism, generosity, selflessness, and immense capacity for empathy she touched countless lives in her communities. Maureen was most at home with her watercolors, baking something chocolatey, and on the deck of her home in Wolfeboro, surrounded by family and friends. Maureen’s greatest joy was her family, and her consistent dedication to them will live on through the love and lessons she bestowed on the Jutras, McGinn and FitzGerald children. Maureen was preceded in death by her daughter Nicole “Coco” Christine Jutras, siblings Nancy FitzGerald Vaughan, David FitzGerald, nephew Timothy FitzGerald; and brother-in-law Bobby Jutras. She is survived by her husband Phillip Jutras, daughter Amy Jutras McGinn son-in-law Daniel McGinn, sons Nathaniel and Theodore Jutras, daughter-in-law Erica Stanley; grandchildren Abby, Jack and Tommy McGinn, Lyla Jutras and Ada Jutras; brothers Michael, Kevin, and Chris FitzGerald, and sister Rosemary FitzGerald Droney; sisters-in law Susan Jutras Cocci and Elizabeth Jutras Cullen; 24 nieces and nephews; and Treeing Walker Coonhound, Finn. There will be a celebration of life in Wolfeboro, N.H. on Friday, July 15 with a Mass in Wellesley, Mass. later this summer.
