LACONIA, NH — Mildred “Milly” Gladys Calvert, 102, died on Thursday, January 23, 2025, peacefully at her home in the Taylor Community, Laconia. She previously resided in Tuftonboro and Wolfeboro, having moved from Massachusetts in 1986.
Milly was born on June 20, 1922, in Methuen, MA, the daughter of the late Albert Lorenz and Mary (Lange) Lorenz, and graduated from Searles High School, Methuen, MA, in 1940. In addition to her parents, Milly was predeceased by her husband, Richard (Dick) M. Calvert, with whom she shared 74 years of love and laughter, and her sisters, Helen Hall and Esther Rotondo.
Milly enjoyed many home making skills, was a Girl Scout leader, volunteered at the Tuftonboro Library, and was very active in the Melvin Village Community Church, where she had many friends. She and Dick enjoyed camping, skiing, square dancing, and traveling in the US, Europe, and China. She had worked part-time at the Hospitality Shop at Lawrence General Hospital doing bookkeeping and ordering inventory for the gift shop, as well as preparing and serving lunch. They named a sandwich after her, a “Milly Special”, a garden salad with ham on Syrian bread.
Milly is survived by her son, Richard A. Calvert and his wife Carol of Collegeville, PA; daughter, Linda E. and her husband David B. Prescott of Conway, SC; grandchildren, David R. Prescott and his wife Bridget of Charlestown, RI, and Lori B. and her husband Scott Davidson of Natick, MA; great-grandchildren, Matthew R. Davidson, Connor B. Prescott, Kaia E. Prescott, and Kaden M. Davidson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11 AM at the Melvin Village Community Church, 476 Gov. Wentworth Hwy, Melvin Village, NH, 03850, followed by burial in the Melvin Village Cemetery in the rear of the church.
