Phyllis L. (Whitney) Morehouse, passed away at her home on November 18, 2023 with her family at her side. She was born on May 12, 1944, in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Waite and Ruby Fern (Phelps) Whitney.
Phyllis enjoyed cooking and worked for many years in restaurants as both a cook and baker. She then became a long-haul truck driver and for close to twenty years traveled the country "driving truck" as she would call it. She was not tall in stature, but had a large personality and was able to hold her own. It was at the end of her trucking career that she met Richard (Dick) Morehouse whom she wed in 1995. They moved to Dick's hometown of Concord, VT, where she had resided ever since.
Her love of cooking remained and she became known for her meals and desserts. No one ever left hungry from her table and she always had enough leftovers for all to take with them. She and Dick were also involved with 4-H for many years and shared a mutual love of horses. Her other great love was spending time with her family and friends. She was very generous with what little she had and was always willing to help anyone she could. This was best portrayed in her final profession as a caretaker for those in their later stages of life. She found great peace in being able to provide care and comfort during this time in people's lives.
Phyllis is survived by her three sons, Samuel Pylypczuk and his partner Doreen of Moultonboro, NH, Richard Avery and his wife Liz of Madison, SD and David R. Avery and his wife Cindy of Wolfeboro, NH; step-son Ceylon Morehouse his wife Vicki and their family of Concord, VT; four grandchildren, Jonathan Pylypczuk of Tamworth, NH, David K. Avery and his wife Emily of Wakefield, NH, Elizabeth Avery of Limerick, ME, and Mason Avery of Madison, SD, as well as four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by siblings Juanita Peace of Arkansas, Jack Whitney, Mary May Mitchell, Mabel Rinard and sister-in-law Maryann (Roger) Whitney all of Colorado. She is predeceased by her husband Richard Morehouse, her parents, daughter Michelle Peterson, niece Renee Peace and siblings Roger Whitney, Homer Gibson, Waite Whitney, Jr., Barbara Butler, Wilma Tullis, Betty Marr and Keith Whitney.
Her family would like thank the staff of Caledonia VNA/Hospice for their professionalism and empathy during her decline. Also to extend our heartfelt gratitude to her friends and neighbors for their unwavering support and kindness during her failing health. Your visits, cards, calls and texts lifted her up and she realized how truly blessed she was to have each of you in her life.
A funeral service and reception will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m at the Concord Community Church, Concord, VT. In lieu of flowers Phyllis requested donations be made to the Concord Community Church, 481 Main St, Concord, VT 05824.
