Raymond Charles Bessette (81), of Birch Hill Estates, Wolfeboro, passed away June 16 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, NH.
Born July 18, 1941 in Woonsocket, RI son of the late Wilbrod and Eva (Lacroix).
Raymond grew up in Woonsocket before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1958. He served three of his four years at RAF Alconbury, England. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Anita Perron, and began his first year at Providence College. He graduated in 1966 with a degree in Accounting. After graduating, Raymond's career took him to New York, Connecticut, and eventually New Hampshire. Raymond was the proud father of 5 children and his life truly revolved around them, especially when it came to coaching their sports teams, including little league and pee wee football.
He worked as a comptroller and accountant retiring from Booth Fisheries and finished out his career as a Real Estate Appraiser for Lawrence Dubois Appraisals. He enjoyed vacationing in Narragansett, RI and Ponce Inlet, FL. He also enjoyed piloting his own single engine plane and caring for his hummingbirds. He loved walking, golfing, and doing yard work in his free time. A man of great faith, Raymond was a parishioner of St Katharine Drexel Church in Alton, NH.
He is lovingly remembered by his family as being a man of few words but an endless amount of love and kindness, somebody who embodied great character and honor, and being passionate about his family and politics-- only seeing his grumpy side if you disagreed with him.
Predeceased by his parents, Wilbrod and Eva, his siblings Judith Braun and Brother Dennis Bessette SC and his beloved son Mark Bessette. He is survived by his wife Anita (Perron) Bessette, 3 sons Mathew Bessette (Denise Johnson) of West Yarmouth, MA, Andre Bessette (Nanette Warner) of Manchester, NH, Daniel Bessette (Alison Bowden) of Holbrook, MA, a daughter Denise Velasco (Jose Velasco) of Wolfeboro, 2 brothers Richard Bessette of Douglas, MA, Robert Bessette (MaryJane) of Slatersville, RI, a sister Suzanne Tomasso of South Grafton, MA. Raymond, affectionately known as 'Grumpy' by the 4 grandchildren he leaves behind, Karyssa Randolph Busching, Stephanie Barnes, Spencer Barnes (Mary Boisse), and Hunter Bessette, in addition to 2 great grandchildren.
