Freedom - Shirley Mae (Humphries) White, 97, of Freedom died October 11, at Huggins Hospital.
Born in Salem, MA on April 2, 1926, Shirley was pre-decreased by her husband of 67 years, Ernest Laburton White, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Humphries and Christina (Kingman) Humphries, and grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts, then lived most of her adult life in Stamford, CT, moving to Freedom more than 20 years ago after summering there all of her life.
Shirley was the valedictorian of Tufts University which she graduated from in 1947.
She with her husband ran their own business ISC Inc. for 20 years, exporting jet aircraft engine parts and specialty materials. She was a downhill skier, cross country skier and enjoyed reading and traveling. Shirley also professionally repaired and dressed antique dolls.
Survivors include a daughter Wendy E. White of Freedom, a son Steven H. White, and his wife Kathleen, of Chapel Hill, NC. Shirley is also survived by two grandsons, Ryan H. White, and his partner Jacob Moses of Washington, DC and Christopher D. White, and his wife Carmen, of Denver, CO.
