Captain Steven Lane Smith died on May 30th 2022, ending many months of suffering loss of the use of limbs and mental capacity because of brain damage caused by vascular Parkinsonism. He was 75. He called San Antonio, Texas home but resided in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire for twenty years. He was an Air Force fighter pilot for ten years and an airline captain for two decades. He was a pilot association president at Air Florida and CAM Air, named Vice President of Presidential Airlines, and served in several airline management positions at United Parcel Service. He expressed profound love for Aileen D’Arcy, his wife of 46 years, and his sons Austin Lane and Travis Conor and their families. He graduated from the University of Missouri and attended the School of Law at the University of Louisville. He was the author of seven books, the latest of which was Twisted Piccolo. He will be buried in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery.
