Stuart Hale Stinchfield

October 6, 1935 — January 14, 2023

Wolfeboro, NH

Stuart H. Stinchfield, 87, of Wolfeboro, NH passed away January 14, 2023 surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Born on October 6, 1935, Stuart grew up and spent most of his life in Wolfeboro, graduating from Brewster Free Academy in 1954. Stuart had an incredible work ethic and, from an early age, was employed by his father, Ralph at their family store, Stinchfield’s Market Basket before taking over the business himself. He and his wife, Jean, later re-invented the store as the much beloved Stinchfield’s Ben Franklin, working side by side before retiring in 1998.

Family was of the utmost importance to Stuart. He married the love of his life, Jean (Clough), in 1957 and recently celebrated an amazing 65 years of marriage. They raised three children at their home on Elm Street. Throughout his long life, Stuart loved time with friends and family, time spent at Rust Pond, boating on Lake Winnipesaukee, snowmobiling, reading, and word search puzzles. He was a long time member of the Morningstar Masonic Lodge where he was a Master Mason. Among many other honors, he became a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in the Bektash Temple and earned the Scottish Rite degree. He and Jean enjoyed many travels for work and pleasure including a yearly trip to Aruba, winters in Oldsmar, FL, and summers in Wells, Maine. They settled in Oldsmar, FL full time in 1998 and recently moved back to Wolfeboro to be closer to family.

Stuart will be most deeply mourned by his treasured wife, Jean, who has created a detailed memory book capturing many moments of his full life to be shared with loved ones. He will also be greatly missed by his sister, Bonnie Fuller; his three children, Heidi Baxter (Charlie), Belinda Shields (Scott), and Stuart Stinchfield (Julie); grandchildren, Joshua Porter (Ann Louise), Kendra Shallow (Jordan), Emily Balkus (Andrew), Cameron Stinchfield, and Lily Stinchfield; as well as great-grandchildren, Anthony, Lucy and Vince.  He is predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Gladys (Hale) Stinchfield.
