Susan Winslow Arruda, age 84, beloved wife of Paul Arruda passed aways peacefully on Thursday, April 6th at her home in Wolfeboro, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 9, 1938 in West Hartford, CT, Susan was the daughter of the late H. Ladd Plumley and Lois Phelps. Susan and her late sister Nancy Ljungberg spent many summers with their Dad on Lake Winnipesaukee. She graduated from Garland College, a liberal arts college for women in Boston. She worked at nearby hospitals working with children with Autism. They too responded to her loving ways and she was very good at what she did.
She married Paul Arruda on June 17, 1961. They settled into the community of Topsfield, MA where they raised their three daughters, Marybeth, Shauna, and Gennifer. She became an icon in the community with her volunteering efforts on many boards, she was active in the school system for many years as the President of the PTO, and a Girl Scout Leader for all three of her daughters. She also found time to host many Bridge matches with her close friends. She loved reading, gardening, and most of all golf.
They spent their summers as a family on Lake Winnipesaukee at their lakeside camp. Susan became an avid golfer during their summers at the lake. She was a member of Kingswood Golf Club for over forty years. She was a club champion and was a member of the hole-in-one club. Her golf gals cherished her dearly. It was often said that her generosity always came with an unconditional love that was immeasurable. In later years she enjoyed her grandchildren at the lake. She was known as the Queen of Uno and was known for her creative scavenger hunts that she created for the kids. Her grandchildren have described her as having the best sense of humor and a loving energy that was contagious. The many valuable lessons that she instilled through her love, compassion, and wisdom will have a lasting impact on all of her grandchildren.
Susan will be truly missed by her husband Paul, of 62 years of marriage and their three daughters: Mary Beth Minigiello and her husband John, Shauna Farmer and her husband Mark and Gennifer Friend. And by her seven grandchildren: Jake Minigiello, Sophie Minigiello, Griffin Minigiello, Colby Farmer, Wesley Farmer, Cole Friend and Maddie Friend. She is also survived by her loving sisters-in-law Maureen Wright and Colleen Shea and her adoring eight nephews and nieces: Rick, Arline, Ladd Scott, John, Nils, Keith, Colin, and Alicia -- who she enjoyed very much.
A private family service will be held, followed by a Celebration of Life Ceremony at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Life Ministries Food Pantry, PO Box 476, Wolfeboro Falls, NH 03896 or Donate using Pay Pal on website www.lifeministriesfoodpantry.org
