Susanne “Sue” Murphy, a long time Wolfeboro resident and in recent years a resident of Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. She was 97 years old.
Sue was born in Melrose, MA to Dorothy and Donald Earl. Her father owned cottages at what is now Port Wedlyn in Wolfeboro. Sue enjoyed many summers there with family and friends and was happy when she became a full-time resident.
Sue was formerly married to Walter Murphy of Winchester MA and Wolfeboro. She is survived by her son, Steven, and his wife Paula of CA and her sister-in-law, Eleanor Murphy (Woburn MA) and her niece, Marcia Murphy (Burlington MA.) She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Sue had a wonderful sense of humor right up to the end of her long life. She was eternally optimistic and considered herself “lucky to wake up each morning.” Sue had health setbacks over the last few years and after each one, she would rebound and state proudly “Everyone thinks I am going to die, but I will show them.” She was well known for hoarding chocolate and snacks. Sue was very kind and would never raise her voice to scold or harm anyone. Sharing Sue’s love of life and endless optimism was a privilege to those lucky enough to know her.
Sue’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Mtn View for their many years of dedicated care. Sue wanted to spend her last days there where she was most comfortable and that is a tribute to their amazing and caring staff.
Services will be private. Donations to the ASPCA in memory of Sue and her love of dogs would be appreciated.
