William Frederick Alphen, Jr

April 14, 1957 — February 29, 2024

William F. Alphen Jr. passed away peacefully on February 29th at the Jack Byrne Center, Lebanon, NH.

Bill graduated from Lynn English High School in 1975 and studied Law Enforcement at Lynn North Shore Community College, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He was a very proud Marine, August 1978 – October 1982 honorably discharged as a Sargeant. He joined the Lynn Police Department serving proudly for many years and retiring as a Lieutenant. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. When not traveling, biking, rappelling and even jumping out of an airplane he relaxed at home raising his chickens and ducks, to each he gave a name. Bill was a gourmet cook and loved preparing and sharing wonderful meals with friends and family. He started taking cars apart at the age of 15 and never lost his love of automobiles. He devoted a lot of his time to his various collections, always so excited by a new acquisition. He was so intelligent, we always joked that we never needed an encyclopedia, we just called Billy. His laugh, his smile, his quick wit and his big heart are so missed already. He was taken from us far too soon. He made a copy of Dylan Thomas’ poem Do Not Go Gently Into That Good Night. He was very feisty and he raged against the dying light for nine months but in the end Leukemia won and he did go gently into the night.

He leaves behind his devoted family, his mother Marjorie Alphen, his sisters Corinne Alphen and Robin DeStasio (Alphen), his brother Scott Alphen and his son Kurt Alphen. He also leaves behind his nephews Louis DeFelice, Raymond Wahl and Michael DeStasio, his grand nieces Rachel DeFelice, Sophia Wahl, Acelynn Wahl and Nova Wahl who brought such joy into his life.

He is pre-deceased by his brother Glenn Alphen and by his Dad William F. Alphen who passed away 13 days earlier.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes there will be no formal service.
