Wolfeboro, NH-Raymond James McCarthy, 67 of Pleasant Valley Rd., Wolfeboro died August 16, 2014, at the Hyder Hospice Home in Dover, NH. Born in Kearny, NJ September 9, 1946 son of the late Raymond J. and Isabel (McCauley) McCarthy he lived in New Jersey and Long Island, New York most of his life before moving to Wolfeboro 9 years ago. During the Vietnam War he served his country with the United States Army. Ray met his wife of 35 years, Denise (Bernier) McCarthy of Wolfeboro, while working as a cook at the Montauk Yacht Club on Long Island. He had been a chef/cook at several restaurants in the Hamptons before changing his career. He started his own cabinet/furniture making business operating as Ray McCarthy Custom Woodwork and continued with it for 20 years. After moving to Wolfeboro, he took the position of Facilities Manager at the Wright Museum where he not only oversaw the daily maintenance and operations, but built display cabinets and other custom woodwork for the museum. Ray was a member of the New England Country Boys band, in which he played a pedal steel guitar with them at several nursing homes and various functions. He is also a member of the First Christian Church of Wolfeboro. Besides his wife, Ray leaves 2 sons, James McCarthy of East Wakefield, NH, Matthew McCarthy of Wolfeboro, 4 sisters, Sue Ackerson of Toms River, NJ, Jeanne Stout of Toms River, NJ MaryAnn Ragany of Princeton, NJ and Lorraine McCarthy of Atlantic City, NJ. Calling Hours will be 6-8 PM Wednesday Aug. 20 at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service 85 Mill St., Wolfeboro, NH. Services will be 10:30 AM Thursday at the First Christian Church, Main St., Wolfeboro. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Wolfeboro, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hyder Family Hospice House 285 County Farm Rd., Dover, NH 03820
